Destiny’s new Prison of Elders mode is a lot of fun – but it’s no Raid
Arena is a game mode introduced in the House of Wolves expansion with the Prison of Elders. Arena is a special cooperative game mode that pits players against a series of trials. The Prison of Elders is an Arena located in The Reef and features a randomized base mode with matchmaking available, as well as several higher-level challenge modes that rotate each week, offering more rewards.
It applies a different Modifier each round, and a different set of Modifiers per week, and may contain critical objectives that the three-player team must complete, or else the team wipes.
Thieves’ Den is an intimate arena set in the tunnels under Venus. House of Wolves comes to PS4 and PS3 on May 19th. I also hate that you don’t have the option for matchmaking on all game modes (raids included).
May 19th of may become known as the day that players started hating Bungie just a little bit less. The House of Wolves not only brings fresh content to Destiny but it also gives much needed fixes to the game. The latest expansion is somewhat of an apology to players. First, the additional story content. Even though there were few missions added, they are of a higher quality than the previous expansion. The storyline was larger and more flushed out but fell short of the highest levels that Bungie has been known for in the past.
The mechanical delivery of the story is its greatest flaw, the same voice over then action and more voice over technique continues to be over employed in this game. For those most interested in co-operative content, there is an additional strike and new arena mode called the Prison of Elders. The strike is much to talk about in comparison to the arena mode.
The strike is pretty much standard fare in the way of Destiny strikes whereas the Prison of Elders shakes things up.
Destiny House of Wolves: Crucible Details, New PlayStation Map
Unlike the Trials of Osiris , House of Wolves ‘ new competitive multiplayer mode, the Prison of Elders supports matchmaking.
Destiny will introduce a much requested feature: matchmaking for the Weekly Heroic Destiny’s House of Wolves drops in May, light level increase to 39 – rumor PlanetSide Arena moved to March, first closed beta starts next week.
But it was never really clear what the heck was going on beyond those airy concepts. How are the Guardians revived and who are they? What the heck is the deal with that royal family living in the space junkyard? And why do the Ghosts sound like Peter Dinklage waking up from a really long sleep? Also, what the hell are the Ghosts? So many mysteries. There are, of course, rumours that the Destiny story mode was originally much more dense, but that Bungie was forced to jettison great chunks of content as the planned release deadline loomed hence the relegation of lots of narrative detail to the Grimoire cards, which you have to go online and READ.

Since its launch in September, Destiny has always encouraged social engagement as the key to full enjoyment of the game. Raids and Nightfall strikes acted as end-game experiences squarely targeted at group play, but demanded you do your own work to form and solidify the teams that would enter those spaces. With House of Wolves, Bungie has doubled down on this strategy, offering two brand new gameplay modes that are a ton of fun, along with some of the most interesting gear and weapons yet seen, but the best of the new content demands a pre-formed group.
House of Wolves opens with several new story missions, taking Guardians into some pitched battles that nonetheless unfold in mostly familiar locales. The story mission battles are smartly paced, with some fevered combat encounters against large numbers of Fallen foes, and these encounters are friendly to both lone wolf Guardians and fully formed Fireteams.
Bungie held its third and final “House of Wolves” live-streamed event on A new “arena” mode called Prison of Elders. As for the game mode itself, Trials of Osiris calls for players of three (no matchmaking here either, sorry).
With it will be a new raid, new strikes and of course new gear. Thanks to leaks we’ve already seen a small hint of what House of Wolves will have in store. The Reddit user responsible for many of the leaks, Megamanexe4 , also correctly predicted the expansion’s release date, so the leaked information seems legitimate. Players will be journeying once more to the Reef for the raid simply called “The Arena.
House of Wolves will supposedly include three new story missions revolving around the Awoken Queen’s Fallen warriors. Those Fallen have revolted against the Queen, and it looks like it will be up to Earth’s Guardians to bring them to justice across missions taking place on Earth and Venus. PvP lovers will also be getting plenty of new content to enjoy in the form of new multiplayer maps. And of course there will be plenty of new gear to enjoy, some of which can be seen here.
According to leaked information about the expansion, House of Wolves will be raising the “light level” cap for players up to 39, a huge step up from the previous expansion. We’ll just have to wait and see if that turns out to be true. In the meantime, be sure to check out the official House of Wolves trailer below. Home Culture Geek. Related Articles.

A cleverer, more creative, more thoughtful expansion than The Dark Below, House of Wolves is Destiny at its best, with a host of fresh improvements. There’s a moment in one of House of Wolves’ campaign missions that is pure Halo. I won’t spoil too much, but here’s the gist: you emerge onto a wide-open field of battle. A fleet of alien ships hang in the sky. A few of them peel off, descend, and deploy troops in a semi-circular arc ahead of you. The music picks up.
Choose a direction. It’s a scenario straight out of Bungie’s classic playbook: the open arena, the shooter refactored as a strategic puzzle game where your finesse, situational awareness and cunning allow you to line up and eliminate enemies like Bejewelled gems. Both Destiny ‘s launch campaign and The Dark Below leaned a little too heavily on corridors packed with bullet-sponge foes: House of Wolves learns that lesson, furnishing you with five new missions each with its own memorable set-piece battle.
They are, however, rather brief. Destiny’s dip-in, dip-out structure still struggles to ground you in an ongoing campaign. You’re encouraged to flit from one activity to the next – and there are many good reasons to do so, as I’ll get to. As a result these well-designed missions feel a little like vignettes rather than parts of a cohesive whole.
‘Destiny’ House Of Wolves Gets May Release Date, Official Trailer
House of Wolves will have a new cooperative end game activity focused on variety, replayability, and skill — a new battle Arena called The Prison of Elders. For some reason whenever I hear Arena, however, I get turned off. Not quite sure why, maybe just because of the shallow implementations of arena modes that have been done in the past. Not necessarily by Bungie. I wonder how similar it will be to Firefight in Reach.
I am actually pretty excited for them to mix it up and not provide a raid.

This new co-op Arena activity will see groups of three players take on waves of increasingly difficult AI-controlled enemies. The more waves Guardians survive, the greater the reward at the game’s conclusion. Thankfully, this Prison of Elders mode allows for matchmaking, so you won’t have to worry about arranging time with two pals to hook up and try to unlock those Legendary and Exotic rewards.
Of course you can still tackle the events with your own Fireteam, too. Those who have played Destiny ‘s Trials of Osiris multiplayer mode in the House of Wolves expansion know how tense that game type can be. However, it does not have teammate matchmaking, and so players must enter with two friends. In response, developer Bungie has made Elimination a standard playlist with teammate matchmaking enabled in Destiny’s Crucible player vs. This allows players to get the same game type as Trials of Osiris even if they don’t have anyone to play with or own the House of Wolves expansion.
As detailed on Bungie’s website , Elimination is a 3 vs. The goal is to eliminate the other team. Games are the best of nine rounds. Unfortunately, this game type will not have the same special rewards as Trials of Osiris, and instead loot will drop like other standard Crucible playlists.
Destiny: House of Wolves
I was one of those players that was absolutely hyped up for Destiny , and was among the many who were disappointed when it turned out to be more of a standard shooter than a grand sci-fi epic. Its first expansion, “The Dark Below,” was unfortunately underwhelming with a flimsy story and a lack of matchmaking for its endgame. This mode has you and two other players fight through five rounds of increasingly more difficult enemies. Enemies are shockingly much more active and mobile than in other parts of the game, and will often flank and overrun your team if you stay in one spot too long.
Some of the rounds add in ability or weapon modifiers that can help or hinder players on top of adding special objectives, such as dismantling Guardian-killing super-mines within a time limit.
The story of House of Wolves revolves around the Queen of the Reef, two of her most Guardians go where the treasure and the glory is, and an arena of to unlock the higher difficulties, which do not support matchmaking.
That reveal happened today and provided a few details about the cooperative game mode as a few players live streamed their playthrough. Early on in the stream , Bungie’s Community Manager, DeeJ, shared that it is possible for Destiny players to solo the new game mode if they so desire. However, doing so will definitely not be easy, as only the harder difficulties of the battle arena can be soloed, since Normal Mode will include automatic matchmaking.
We learned from the live stream that there will be four difficulties available in Prison of Elders. The easiest is set at level 28 and will include automatic matchmaking. While it seems players should be able to solo the 28 level difficulty, they’ll need to launch the game with two other players and request those players leave the game. The three harder versions of the battle arena, which come in levels 32, 34, and 35, will not include matchmaking, allowing players to launch the game mode solo.
Those who wish not to run solo will need to create their own fireteam before entering the arena on higher levels. DeeJ and his two arena partners showed off the level 28 difficulty version of the game mode in the live stream, and even with their characters ascended to the highest level available, the task wasn’t easy. Thus, we suspect it may be a while before players are able to successfully solo Prison of Elders, even on the easiest difficulties.
Of course, we should have greater faith in Destiny players, as they’ve shown they can be quite resourceful in soloing some of the game’s most difficult maps and enemies. In fact, it seemed near impossible for anyone to complete Crota’s End raid solo , even on Normal mode. However, some Destiny players not only beat Crota’s End on Normal, they did it on Hard and in an impressively quick time. DeeJ commented in the live stream that succeeding in the most difficult version of the Prison of Elders battle arena, level 35, will require three-player teams to be at their best and to achieve the highest character level available in Destiny.
